Puerto Montt and the Navimag ferry to Perto Natales

Thursday Nov. 15th
Morning spend at the hostel and preparing to leave for Puerto Montt. We leave at 1pm to take the bus for 800 Pesos for 20km. We get to a hostel that we had booked in advance, because we heard it gets crowded on the days before the ferry leaves. The hostel is called ''Casa Perla'' at 7500 Pesos (15.71$ Can.), nice, a bit far from downtown but not so bad. We leave our stuff and leave almost immediately for the center. The sky is grey and looks rainy so we decide to go to the shopping center where there is a movie theater and we opt to go watch the new James Bond movie ''Skyfall'', when we get out the sun is shining again and we walk along the lake and get to the fish market, almost completely the other side of town, for a small fish supper. Back at the hostel in the evening but only after having stopped by the grocery first to get some stuff for the time we will be on the ferry that leaves the next day. We are taking the Navimag ferry from Puerto Montt that will bring us all the way to Puerto Natales in 4 days, 3 nights through the islands and the fjords of northern Patagonia.
This cruise is worth 420.00$ American. We added the whole trip up going the other way around through Argentina down and it would have cost us about the same amount including hostel and foods all the way and so we opted for the ferry. For me it was a new experience also to be aboard a boat for a few days. So it was a good option.

Friday Nov. 16th
We get to the ferry agency at 9am to confirm our presence on the ferry that was already booked. We had to come back at 2pm for boarding the boat. We decide to go into town to pass time and have lunch. At 2pm we get on the ferry and we leave Puerto Montt at 4pm. There was a safety meeting after we left and when we got out and went outside we saw dolphins not too far from the boat. Another first for me. A few glasses of wine outside to celebrate and appreciate the moment, supper at 7:30pm and we spend the complete evening and the front of the ferry watching the sunset and we stayed there until it got dark. 1.5 liters of wine later :) it was time for bed.

Saturday Nov. 17th
Got up early with a superb view of the sun above the mountains. We spend the day very mellow reading and writing. So very relax and no stress, because there is nowhere to go and nothing else to do for the day. We only need to appreciate the time we spend. The whole day is pretty much the same.

Sunday Nov. 18th
Today I'm up early enough to actually see the sunup over the mountains. We navigate all morning and at 11am we are in front of the glacier Tempo. At 2pm we can get off the boat to go visit a small village named Puerto Eden. A small place in the middle of nowhere that only has 170 inhabitants, mostly a fishing village. Very cute and charming in it's own way. We get back on board and leave again at 5pm and keep going for the night.

Monday Nov. 19th
We arrive in Puerto Natales at 2pm, but can only get off the ferry at 4pm. We then head to a hostel named ''Yaganhouse'' for 9000 pesos.that was reserved in advance just in case there would be nothing available when we got here. I think it would have been OK, but from here we figure we might need to book in advance a little more often because it is getting Hi-Season in Patagonia and lots of hostels are often completely booked. We go for supper and for a beer in the evening.
